Amtrak To Hell

So I just happened upon this bit of bullshit which, while it may apply if you live in hippy rainbow la-la land where everyone is nice and the world is full of music and flowers and talking unicorns, it doesn’t really work in the real world, does it? I mean, what if you’re a fanatical terrorist or someone who likes to torture and kill small animals? What if you’re a rapist or a child molestor? Should you just go with the idea that you are who you are and that’s the beginning and the end? Should you have no regrets about the way you lived or the other living beings you hurt? Without going too much further along those lines, I think it’s fairly obvious that this is a pretty stupid comment to make to the world in general, but even going with the argument that it is only meant for “decent” folk, it’s still a bunch of bullshit.
People change, it’s a fact of life. You’re supposed to change as you grow and experience things and learn more about the world around you. Not doing so is a big part of the reason, in fact, that people are able to use two thousand year old religious traditions to justify everything from terrorism, torture and murder to stopping gay people from getting married and decent, tax paying citizens from smoking weed in a supposedly “free” country.
Even on a personal level, stubbornly clinging to the idea that “this is who I am and I’m not gonna change because I’m perfect I was born this way blah blah blah” leads to stagnation and a lack of personal growth. Frankly, you’re not perfect the way you are. Nobody is, with the possible exception of Tom Waits, so quit buying into that hippy liberal bullshit.
Don’t accept everything about yourself. That’s stupid. Use your brain, do a bit of self-examination, and accept the good stuff about yourself. But do your best to throw out and/or improve upon the bad stuff, because if you don’t, it’s gonna come back to bite you in the ass, and not in a good, kinky, rough sex kind of way. More like a terrorist, baby raping, kitten killing kind of way, and that way sucks for everybody.
