[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.] Haute Tropique - Man Man from Life Fantastic (Deluxe Edition)
Haute Tropique by Man Man
“He asks himself nightly
Voices in his head sing: You’re born what you’re meant to be
If you’re bad then be bad the best
If you’re good stay away from me
We’re a bad influence for the best”
This song is about a serial killer, and while I’ve never actually murdered anyone for the purpose of using their bodies as furniture, I know what it’s like, as I’m sure most people do, to hear those morally ambiguous voices in your head that don’t actually take a side for good or evil, they just weigh out the options logically and tell you to make your own choice.
Most of the time, I think, people make the most selfish choice either way. Sometimes that choice just happens to be “good”, and in those cases, we get to pretend like we are morally superior because we did the right thing when we were really only looking out for our own best interests.
The serial killer in this song is more honest than most people, or at least his voices are. They’re telling him to make the evil choice no matter what, because he is what he is and that’s the end of it, consequences be damned.
It must be kind of hectic being a serial killer.
